Air Purifier Systems and Asthma
People with diagnosed asthma dread the onset of an asthma attack and are motivated to take steps to prevent it. The attacks are even more frightening for those who have not been diagnosed and don't understand the occasional experiences that leave them gasping for air. At ClearFlite Air Purifiers, we've talked to many, many people suffering from asthma through the years and have tried to recommend air purifier solutions that apply to their specific situations. We have also directed many people who are unsure of what's happening to them to see an asthma specialist because, although air purifier products will help significantly, a comprehensive program developed by a doctor who truly understands asthma is critically important.
For those who wonder if their sporadic episodes are asthma, here is the two-part disease in a nutshell: Asthma involves both constriction of the lung passageways and the swelling of the lung passageways. Sometimes both parts happen simultaneously making it very hard for the person to simply breathe. The constriction part of asthma happens when the lung passageways get very narrow because the muscles surrounding them have tightened up. That alone makes breathing difficult. Inflammation happens in the lung air ways when they get irritated by the infiltration of a toxic or irritating substance (this is where air purifier products are most helpful). When they both happen, an asthma attack occurs and the unbearable coughing and wheezing starts. Typically in an indoor situation, an air purifier will rid the air of those irritants that contribute to the onset of an asthma attack. Outdoors is another story.
If you have had such episodes during your life, or your child has experienced them, we first recommend that you visit an asthma specialist, for a total program. Often asthma doctors will recommend their patients obtain an air purifier for the bedroom (many asthma attacks occur in the nighttime). In some cases, health insurance companies will reimburse asthma patients for air purifier products. You can ask the doctor to write a prescription for an air purifier. Most will recommend HEPA (which means High Energy Particulate Arresting) as the air purifier technology which is most helpful without side effects which may be irritating (like air purifier technologies based on ozone generation). You can then check with your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you. ClearFlite will be happy to provide a copy of your paid invoice to your doctor or insurance company (however, we do not file the claims).
Along with your doctor, ClearFlite Air Purifiers can help you evaluate your situation both at home and at work to suggest where air purifier products might be most helpful in eliminating airborne irritants which might stimulate an asthma attack. You will feel much better with your customized asthma prevention action program that plans in advance of attacks to control your environment as much as possible. Our experience has been that an air purifier for sleeping, one in the main living area of your home or in a home office if you spend a great deal of time there, and one in your working environment if possible will go a long, long way toward keeping you happily breathing in spite of a diagnosis of asthma.
