30 Minute Mold Reduction Plan

 

Respiratory problems in children, seniors, and even healthy adults are often caused by airborne mold spores. That’s a fact not a theory.  The World Health Organization says “occupants of damp or moldy buildings have up to a 75% greater risk of respiratory symptoms and asthma than occupants of buildings with better indoor air quality” according to a rigorous two year study recently released.

Set aside half an hour to prevent airborne mold spores in your home or office:

  • Take 5 minutes to mentally go through each room of your house and reflect on what rooms had a moldy feeling or odor to them in previous years. 
  • Create a strategy for the air purifiers you have to keep the mold spore count down.  Consider how you can move them around if necessary.  Make sure the key rooms will be covered.
  • Make sure the filters in your air purifier(s) are not overdue for a change.
  • Arrange to have your carpets cleaned so they can dry out adequately before cold weather comes.  Carpet naturally soaks up dirt and moisture and can be one of the greatest challenges in preventing mold related illnesses.  It needs to be clean and dry. Turn your air purifiers on high when you vacuum.
  • Close the windows of your house when you’re raking leaves.
  • Prepare a place for boots, shoes, and gardening clothes that won’t bring the mold from organic matter into the house.
