Question: How do I select the right model for my needs?
It is important that you select an air purifier designed to clean the size room you have. If you have a very large or open area, it might be more effective to place two or three air purifiers in different parts of the room.  You can call for application help.  You can also click HERE to see a model comparison chart  or scroll to the bottom of this page.

Question: What is HEPA?
The HEPA filter component in these products is essentially an accordion of very fine paper-like filter material. The material is loaded in an accordion or zig-zag manner so that a very large surface area is available for air to be pushed through by the fan. Over time, the filter will plug and the air will no longer be able to move through the filter. You can detect this by either noticing the reduced air flow or the reduced efficiency of the filter. (Note: HEPA is a type of technology, not a brand).  Click HERE for more HEPA information.

Question: What kind of chemicals will the air purifier remove?
The Austin HealthMate Superblend models (which contain a carbon-zeolite mixture impregnated with potassium), were created for people with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) and can even remove chemically reactive gases like formaldehyde and ammonia.  IQAir offers the HealthPro Plus model which is effective in absorbing over 200 gaseous pollutants and odors. The IQAir VOC GC is advanced air cleaning for VOC's. The IQAir MultiGas GC is advanced cleaning for a wider variety of gaseous compounds and odors.  IQAir products are only available in 110 volt.

Question: How long do the filters last?
It depends on the model and on what you are removing from the air.  The Austin Air products have one main filter with integrated carbon and HEPA.  In a normal household or office in the U.S. it can last up to five years.  However, in an environment with heavy pollutants, it may be used up more quickly.  The Austin main filter is surrounded by a prefilter that should be changed once a year. The Blueair filters should be changed every six months. The IQAir HEPA filter can last two to four years, unless you're filtering heavy pollutants. The IQAir prefilter should be changed every six months, and the IQAir V-5 Gas filter in the HealthPro Plus can last up to two years.  The Friedrich main filter, which is electrostatic, must be washed but does not need to be replaced.

Question: Are your air purifiers helpful in removing odor from cigars and cigarettes?
Yes, they help with cigarette smoke but cigars are tough to keep up with because of the amount of smoke they produce. The HEPA filter traps the particulates, and activated carbon absorbs the chemical compounds which cause the odor.   TIP! wash the light bulbs in a smoker's rooms once a month.  The smoke adheres to the hot bulb and every time the light goes on and heats up it outgases the smoking smell.
