Facemasks are mainly used to filter out the particles and debris from the air but for chemicals that may be present, it is not guaranteed that the facemask will be able to filter them out. Although it is possible that chemicals are present in the air, a facemask is still a useful thing to use in order to be sure to be breathing in cleaner air.  Some masks also contain activated carbon which just like in our air purifiers absorbs chemicals.

These types of filters are able to capture even the smallest of particles that are present in the air. The best way to keep safe after a biological attack is to listen to what the government may be reporting about the air quality. If the air quality is known to be contaminated and dangerous, taking the necessary steps is the best way for people to stay safe. Preventing the air from entering a home is a good way to keep the indoor air safe and clean. However, in order to be assured that the contaminants are not in the indoor air, a home air purifier should be run.
