Blueair Air Purifiers Technology - HEPA and Electrostatic Air Filtration

Blueair 501 air purifiers mechanism.

The diagram above shows the major components of Blueair 501s. The other Blueair units vary slightly but use the same basic technology.

Dirty airflow from the room enters through the bottom and lower sides of the Blueair units. This is driven by a high efficiency Blueair fan that was specially developed in conjunction with Siemens Corporation.

The dirty airflow passes ionizer brushes that are carefully placed in the center of the housing. This serves to charge the particles like dust, dander, pollen, and other particulates.

The airflow that is still carrying charged pollutants is moved through the HEPASilent™ filters. These filters are made from nontoxic polypropylene rather then the typical paper. In addition to providing an ideal location for mechanical and electrostatic filtration, this material is waterproof so it provides no location for bacteria to grow.

Now that the pollutants have been removed from the airflow it is returned to the room through the top and sides of the air purifiers. Since the airflow is returned through such a massive area, 6-times that of most air cleaners, it produces less noise.

Note that the structure of these air purifiers is steel to also damp noise and that there is a conveniently located 4 speed switch on the side of the air purifiers.
