Honeywell Air
Purifiers for Kids and Pets
Kids and pets both pose challenges for the mom or
dad trying to keep a healthy home. They both bring in stuff (dirt, dust,
pollens, and sometimes dead things!) from the outside on shoes and paws, and
neither children nor pets are usually very good at cleaning up after themselves.
Pets, particularly dogs and cats which shed a lot, and birds with dander, can
increase the challenge. The Enviracaire line of air purifiers from Honeywell can
help provide a healthier home for your beloved both two-legged, and four-legged.
With its five-year limited warranty, the Enviracaire manufactured by Honeywell,
is a tough machine. You'll be amazed when you change the pre -filter
or vacuum the fiberglass HEPA filter, how much unpleasant material has been
captured inside the little round air purifier. It is only 18 to 19 inches high,
depending upon the model, and weighs 20 pounds, and is about 18 inches in
diameter, so it's a fairly small appliance, but the air intake, which is 360°,
pulls all the air within the specified square footage through the unit several
times an hour. In its category of less expensive air purifiers, the Enviracaire
line is a good value.
The Enviracaire can capture the dust and dander particles emitted by family pets
and keep a child’s room much cleaner which will yield better sleep. Honeywell
designed the Enviracaire line to be quiet and safe. It emits no harmful ozone,
chemicals, or anything that might be unsafe for a baby or child’s bedroom. It
has no accessible parts for little hands to get into. In addition, it has two
speeds which gives you flexibility with the sound, and a filter indicator tells
you when to change the filters. The carbon pre-filter will absorb some chemicals
and odors, such as those found in cleaning or grooming products, as long as
they’re not strong ammonia-based products. ClearFlite has other brands of air
purifiers that address strong odors and chemicals.
The lower cost of the Honeywell Enviracaire than some of the air purifiers that
ClearFlite sells and that can be found on the market, stems in part to the small
activated carbon filter present in it. Activated carbon is an expensive
ingredient in air purifiers. In models with pounds of it, instead of ounces, the
price will always be considerably more expensive. The Enviracaire is more
appropriate for capturing particles and for use by people who are willing to
take the time to vacuum the HEPA filter at least twice a year and more if
needed, and change the carbon pre-filter every three months. Although it is very
well manufactured, the housing is plastic, and not steel as in some of the other
more expensive air purifiers. Still for its cost, the ease in changing the
filters, and the quiet operation, it's a very good unit.
Even pets will benefit by the cleaner air found in a home where air purifiers
are used. The health of children will be increased when their bedrooms and play
areas are kept clean by continuously running an air purifier, like the
Enviracaire. However, it's even better, if pets are kept out of the child's
bedroom. The Honeywell air purifiers can only capture the particles that are
airborne. Pet dander, and other particulate, can get embedded in the upholstery
and carpeting, so regular vacuuming and cleaning of the curtains and bedding are
also important in a child's room.
