IQAir Air Purifiers Measuring HEPA Effectiveness
IQAir measures the effectiveness of their air purifiers in a different way. The company does not only measure how many particles the IQAir air purifiers can clean from the airflow but how effective the unit itself is at decontaminating the air. The actual airflow that exits the IQAir air purifiers is measured instead of the air that is still inside the unit. An IQAir unit is found to effectively clean 99.5% of all particles in the airflow. With 99.5% of all particles in the air extracted before it ever exits the IQAir unit, the air circulated through these IQAir purifiers is guaranteed to be cleaned efficiently. This air will be almost completely free of any particles, gases or odors that can be found in contaminated air and is safer for a customer to breathe.
HEPA filters have the ability to trap particles that are 0.03 microns and larger. Any particle smaller than 0.03 may seem impossible and the HEPA filter may seem completely efficient for being able to catch these small particles. However, harmful and irritating particles smaller than 0.03 microns do exist and can be found in the indoor air people breathe. 90% of particles in contaminated air are smaller than 0.03 microns. This means that although the HEPA filter may be doing its job correctly, it is still missing 90% of the particles in indoor air because they are too small to be detected. Particles smaller than 0.03 microns are microscopic but can still be hazardous to people's sensitive medical conditions or allergies and can also still contain chemicals or odors.
IQAir products have been proven to wipe out particles that are even smaller than 0.03 microns. The products were tested using a laser particle counter. The laser particle counter is able to detect all particles, no matter how small or big, and it is also able to detect bacteria in the air. When the laser particle counter was placed near a regular air purifier, there were still many particles counted in the air that was supposedly cleaned by it. This is not surprising considering that purifier has substantial air leakage and cannot filter any particles under 0.03 microns. The purifier is still pumping out sir that is semi-dirty due to these factors.
When the laser particle counter was placed near an IQAir purifier, the results were astounding. The counter went from a high number to a lower number and soon down to zero. The laser particle counter could not detect any harmful particles in the air that was exiting the IQ purifier. The counter obtained these results because the IQ air purifier is able to filter out 99.5% or more of all particles in the air it takes in. This percentage includes all sizes of particles. The percentage of particles caught by the purifier is so high because IQAir air purifiers are sealed tightly and do not allow for any contaminated air to leak. HEPA filters in these air purifiers are very efficient and technologically advanced, but the IQAir Company likes to add something extra to the filter in order to guarantee cleaner and safer air for their customers.
